In 2008, the Foundation launched the Coatney Center for Philanthropy-located at the offices of the Northshore Community Foundation. The Center, made possible by a gift from Doyle Coatney, is designed as a hub for local nonprofits-as a place where they can go for technical assistance, training, and other resources. The center features trainings to increase the capacity of nonprofit organizations serving the region and classes to teach community volunteers about the value of philanthropy and service.
Coatney, former owner of Acme Truck Line, Inc., is no stranger to philanthropy having supported several other projects and organizations in the region-including the Coatney Wellness Park and Karen Coatney Memorial Labyrinth at the Ochsner Health Center in Covington and the Coatney Leadership Center and Coatney Leadership Award at St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie. Ochsner has recognized him as a Doctor of Philanthropy.
